Orthodontics for adults (cases from orthodontic dental technician practice)

Abstract

There are no age restrictions for orthodontic treatment. Improving incisal guidance, straightening tilted teeth, correcting rotations and migrated teeth, as well as treating periodontitis improve the patient health and facilitate their further dental treatment. The aim of this article is to present cases from dental practice related to adult patients and their orthodontic treatment. To achieve this goal, literature and Internet sources were studied and analyzed. The author’s practical experience, documented with photographic material, has been used. The cases presented refer to the treatment of adult patients with orthodontic appliances – mainly palatal and lingual plates. One of the tasks of orthodontic treatment in adult patients is to achieve a functional bite before prosthetic treatment, which is a factor not only in achieving maximum aesthetic effect, but also in the manufacture of a functionally suitable dental prosthesis. Another task is to prevent recurrence of periodontal and gingival problems after treatment. Orthodontic appliances can be used not only as retention appliances for teeth loosened by periodontal insufficiency, but also for the correction of protruding or rotated teeth, especially in cases of total alveolar atrophic periodontal insufficiency.
