General Overview
Bulgarian Medical Journal (Български медицински журнал / Bаlgarski Meditsinski Zhurnal) is a multidisciplinary journal which entails original scientific and practical cases, literature reviews on modern methods of diagnosis, treatment and prevention. The section on difficult diagnostic and rare cases includes descriptions of clinical cases from all age groups and different medical specialties. Accepted guidelines and consensuses for the diagnosis and treatment of socially important diseases are presented, as well as columns such as “Eminent Physicians”, “Guest Authors”, “Letter to the Editor”, etc.

This journal is owned by the Medical University – Sofia, the oldest institution of higher medical education in Bulgaria. For more than a century, the University has been a national leader in medical education, providing high-quality training to both Bulgarian and international students.

This journal is published with 4 issues annually. It provides immediate open access to its content so as to make research freely available to the public in support of a greater global exchange of knowledge.

REVIEW PROCESS
All manuscripts are subject to peer review and are expected to meet high academic standards. If approved by the editor, submissions will be considered by peer reviewers whose identities will remain anonymous to the authors (single blinded).
FEES
Еffective 1 April 2026 the journal Medical Review introduces an Article Processing Charge (APC) to support full Gold Open Access publishing. An APC of 50 Euro will be payable only after the manuscript has successfully completed peer review and has been formally accepted for publication. An invoice will be issued to the corresponding author, and publication will proceed once payment is confirmed.
Editorial decisions are made independently of payment and are based solely on the manuscript’s scientific merit and the outcome of the peer-review process.
