Abstract

Education can be a means of mobilizing the resources of the entire society to solve socially significant problems. A socially significant problem in Bulgaria is the huge shortage of blood donors, which causes the lack of sufficient blood products. The safest way to ensure sufficient quantities of blood components is to conduct voluntary and unpaid blood donation campaigns. There is a need to encourage and popularize voluntary blood donation among young people. There is a need to encourage and popularize voluntary blood donation among young people. Purpose: The purpose of this report is to outline the role of training in activating students and pupils from the Shumen region to participate in blood donation campaigns. Materials and methods: The study was carried out using a self-developed toolkit – the questionnaire (n = 383), in the period 01.04.2025 – 01.09.2025. The data obtained were processed using the statistical package SPSS for Windows version 19.0.0. Microsoft Office Excel 2010 was used to create the graphs. Results and discussion: To popularize the idea of unpaid donation, we should work primarily with young people, as they feel vital, want to be useful, and make decisions and act more quickly. In modern society, where moral deficiency and lack of spirituality have become permanently established, university professors and secondary school teachers can be role models. The role of the teacher is to develop the thinking of the young person through his or her behavior, so that he or she can build his or her own set of values and virtues. Conclusions: Education at school and university can foster the perception of blood donation as a cause, which necessitates the search for new forms of attracting young people. The personal example of a person from the educational or family environment (teacher, parent, friend or relative) is important for the motivation of young people to donate blood (students 47%, schoolchildren 36%), which confirms the crucial role of the surrounding environment not only in learning science, but also in educating in virtues.
