Introduction: Chronic renal failure is a public health problem, as it affects over 50 million people and is becoming increasingly common. Hemodialysis treatment accounts for 89% of dialysis used worldwide. Objective: To analyze the behavior of medical dialysis nurses when certain complications arise during a dialysis session. Materials and methods: Literature sources were studied on the behavior of nurses in certain frequently observed complications during dialysis procedures. We did our own study of hemodialysis facilities in Pleven, Lovech, Veliko Tarnovo, Sevlievo, Silistra, Vidin, and Cherven Bryag, involving 43 nurses through a direct individual survey focused on nurses‘ skills, one of which is caring for the patient‘s overall condition. Results: Respondents gave more than one answer. Care for the patient‘s general condition accounted for 46.5%, special care for vascular access 90.7%, good knowledge of the early signs of infection 86%, training of the patient and relatives 65.1%, care for the psycho-emotional state 37,2%, other – 2.3%. The most commonly observed complications during dialysis are hypertension, hypotension, and muscle cramps. Conclusion: Nursing in hemodialysis treatment is of great importance for the continuous monitoring of patients during hemodialysis, helping to avoid possible complications through theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
